Canon History: http://rwby.wikia.com/wiki/Ruby_Rose
Personality: Ruby Rose is a young girl thrown into a grown up’s war. At Age 14, she’s one of Beacon Academy’s youngest, if not the youngest, student - a prodigy with skills in scythe combat trained by her uncle Qrow and exceptional mechanical know-how, having built her weapon, the gun-scythe Crescent Rose. However, this doesn’t make for an exceptional person. A lot of Ruby’s story is focusing on getting her out of her shell and becoming the leader Professor Ozpin sees her as.

Ruby’s shell is something of a strange one. She isn’t shy and she’s seen as a very competent fighting. However, she’s impulsive, somewhat cocky and quite naive in the ways of the world. She wants to be seen as an awesome heroine seeking to protect the world like some sort of super hero, but she doesn’t like the idea of having things given to her on a silver platter, which is what threw her off upon reaching Beacon. She also wants to be seen as awesome and tries to act on her own, especially if there are other people around her - she doesn’t want them to get hurt and she wants them to see her in action and to think that she’s cool. She is shown to be quite childish and usually doesn’t take things too seriously. A lot of Ruby's showing off can be seen in her early days in Beacon, especially during the test to create the teams for that class: Weiss Schnee had wanted to pair up with the more talented Pyrrha Nikos, but ended up stuck with Ruby due to the stipulations of the test and Ruby attempted to show Weiss she was just as good as anyone else. This would include showing off her Semblence, super speed, ruin Weiss's carefully planned strike on a Grimm by dropping down and striking it and insisting using a flying Grimm to find other signs of human life (mostly her sister, Yang). Of course, this only earned Weiss' ire, culminating in calling her being the leader of RWBY a mistake after her attempts at leadership distracted her in class when trying to show how to deal with one type of Grimm.

However, she isn’t that bad at all. After finally being able to open up, she takes to making friends much easier, showing to accept the strange girl Penny as a friend despite the time doing so was being wasted when she, Yang and Weiss were trying to find Blake. Her enthusiasm does tend to bleed into other quite well, especially the ice-cold Weiss, who goes from wishing that Ruby wasn’t the leader of their team to willingly participating in a food fight. Not only does she take responsibility for her failures, she’s also one to try to make it up, even if it goes against the rules. She’s also seen to be a very capable leader, going so far as to create special names for attacks and everyone knowing exactly what she wants them to do and pulling it off with aplomb. As a Huntress in training she knows who to use her weapon against and who not to as she’s shown tearing through an army of Grimm with ease and is shown cutting a mech’s arm off, but battling human (or humanoid) opponents leads to Ruby smacking people around with the non-sharp end

Following the Fall of Beacon and the various events that followed, Ruby does have a bit of Survivor’s Guilt, particularly involving the death of Pyrrha Nikos as she feels that she failed saving her when Jaune begged her and Weiss to do so, having arrived just in time to watch Cinder Fall incinerate her. Seeing as Jaune tends to play a set of recordings from time to time at night while everyone’s sleeping, she probably doesn’t get the chance to get over it.

She does have a number of odd quirks to her person, though. She’s shown to be quite a weaponholic, going completely gaa-gaa over the various pieces of equipment her fellow classmates carry with them and is totally devoted to her precious weapon, the gun-scythe Crescent Rose (probably doesn’t help that she also made it, too). She’s shown to have a major sweet tooth, telling Weiss that she prefers “one cream and five sugars” in her coffee and wolfing down a plate of cookies for lunch. Her childish nature also has her believe in the wonders of milk for growing up.Probably her strangest quirk is how happy and upbeat she can be at times. With the childhood she had - a missing mom, a dad and uncle who are always away and being taken care of by Yang - she should be something of a recluse or a shut in. Even more, being in a school two years earlier than she should be and dealing with being the youngest there should be almost crippling. However, she tends to keep a positive spin on things, even when things look bleak. Being a Huntress is her big dream as she's doing it because she wants to - she wants to be a hero to everyone in Remnant and despite the more cynical nature of even her headmasters, she believes wholeheartedly in it and seemingly tries to impart it into others, which seems to be bleeding into at least one other person.

Abilities: Many people, Ruby included, within the world of Remnant has two powers: Aura and Semblance. An Aura is the manifestation of a person’s soul, Aura can be used as in a manner of ways. Their main purpose is effectively as a barrier (something like the barriers from the Halo game series) protecting a person from harm, but they can be used offensively and as a minor means of healing (it can be used to mend cuts and bruises but nothing like severed limbs). Aura does have limits and when it hits, it makes a glass-shattering sound and the person is effectively helpless.

Ruby’s Semblance manifests in incredible speed. Her top speed is unknown, but at the point of canon she’s being pulled from, she is most likely sub-sonic in speed (nowhere near the speeds of famous fictional speedsters like The Flash and Sonic the Hedgehog, but still very impressive). Ruby has been shown to be able to move fast enough to create small tornadoes powerful enough to lift large gorilla-like Grimm off the ground, powerful gusts of wind capable of lifting multiple people off the ground and slamming them into walls by the sheer force and effectively “air dash” for a short period of time, not actually flying, but being able to stay in the air.

However, Ruby has a very unique ability, which is only referred to as being a “Silver-Eyed Warrior”.An extremely rare trait, with the only known person to have this is her mother, Ruby has an unspecified set of powers and it seems to be able to be used in grief, though Ruby has no idea how to use these powers. Unleashing a powerful burst of light from her eyes, it’s powerful enough to literally petrify creatures and can tear through certain people, though it’s said that this was because Ruby’s powers is effectively a weakness towards those of the Maiden Powers.

Inventory: Ruby’s main equipment is her precious weapon Crescent Rose. It is a special transforming device with multiple forms, though it is referred to as a “High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe”, custom made by her own hands. The device has multiple forms - Storage Form, which allows it to be stored in Ruby’s back on a special rack, Gun Form, which converts the weapon into its sniper gun form, allowing her to fire bullets (either normal or specialized Dust-powered rounds, which allows her to use various abilities with them), or its Scythe Form, which allows her to fight at close range.
